X Wine

It is noteworthy to point out that in Italy, a land once known by the name of Enotria, or Land of Wine to the ancient Greeks for the greatness and abundance of its wines, Sicily is the region which produces most wines. In fact, this small island perched in the Mediterranean Sea, not far from the North African coast, produces one DOCG (Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed) and 22 PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) wines, as well as eight PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) and 15 PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) food products.

West Coast wine professionals are advised to save the following dates between June 26 and July 1, 2011, as the X Wine group will kick start a world tour with a seminar dedicated to the media on Sunday, June 26, at the Consulate General of Italy, in San Francisco. The next day, Monday, June 27, an invitation only tasting dedicated to food and wine professionals, including importers, distributors, educators, sommeliers, restaurateurs, brokers, buyers, wine collectors and gastronomy gurus will take place at the San Francisco Golden Gate Yacht Club.  From there, X Wine heads to Portland and Seattle, where presentation and tasting of their quality products will take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 and Friday, July 1, 2011, respectively.

Alcesti
Thirty hectares (over 74 acres) of vineyards planted between Marsala, Mazara and Salemi at altitudes ranging from 100 to 280 meters (328 to 920 feet), by the forefathers of the current generation of winemakers, produce grapes that express the typical Sicilian terroir. The winery is a dream come true for the Alcesti family, and reflects their innate hospitality, as well as the desire to innovate while respecting the environment. The wines produced include Grecanico IGP, Grillo IGP, Nero D'Avola IGP, Sirah IGP, as well as exciting blends.

Marco De Bartoli
Marco De Bartoli is considered a symbol for the Marsala dessert wine and the Sicilian viticulture. Both traditionalist and innovator, Marco's story is told by his wines: Vecchio Samperi and Bukkuram.

Cantine Intorcia
Founded in 1930, the Cantine Intorcia estates it is owned to this day by the descendant of the founder. The estate has expanded in time to become a 25,000 square meters (about 30,000 square yards) wine processing facility, able to accept as many as 100,000 hectoliters (over 2.6 million gallons) of wine and an aging cellar with the capacity of over 20,000 hectoliters (over 500,000 gallons) of oak barrels. Their main production includes dessert wines such as Marsala, Zibibbo, and Malvasia.

Fina Vini srl
Fina Vini is a young, efficient, modern winery that expresses the unique characteristics of the Sicilian terroir. The family run estate works with passion to produce the best wines possible from their grapes, which grow and mature in a sunny environment sweetened by the Mediterranean breeze.

Azienda Agricola Pupillo
The Azienda Agricola Pupillo was founded in 1908 by Baron Antonio Pupillo and it is still in his family to this day. The top wine produced by the estate is Solacium, a precious, sweet, soft Moscato DOC.

G. B. Distillati
The estate was founded at the beginning of the 1950s, when Leone Bianchi, a Tuscan wine wholesaler decided to move his business to Marsala and opened the "Leone Bianchi and Son” winery. Later the company changed its name to "Ge.Dis. S.p.A." and, in addition to wine, began distilling brandy, grappa and other spirits. Later, Giuseppe Bianchi led a successful expansion of the group, which today includes Bianchi srl, Sicilia Acquaviti srl, Distillerie Virtus, the shipping company Pi.Bi.Emme, and the newborn "G.B.Distillati, which is run by Claudio Bianchi.
